Why did most German people come to America?
Most German people came to America because of poverty that Germany had in store for them. Although they were poor, most usually weren't as poor as the Irish. Many Germans were also skilled craftsmen and farmers. Other Germans came because of difficulties with land. As Germany became an industrialized country, it discouraged farmers to farm there. It also raised land taxes because land was greatly needed in Germany. The new taxes and land difficulties eventually forced many German farmers to come to the United States to farm there. Once they arrived, large numbers of Germans settled in the Midwest to farm its fertile soil.
