What were conditions usually like for Irish people on their journeys?
The journey to America was long and perilous for the Irish people. Many were sent by their landlords to America because it was cheaper to put them on a ship than feed them. On their journeys, there was an extremely high mortality rate. Many Irish people died because of rampant disease on the unsanitary ships. Others died from starvation.
