St. Patrick's day
In Ireland, St. Patrick's day originally started as a religious holiday to honor St. Patrick, who supposedly drove all the snakes out of Ireland. In Ireland, there was never any celebration, drinking, and partying. The lack of partying and drinking was due to the fact of it being a religious holiday. But when Irish people came to America, they greatly changed the religious holiday. In America they transformed it to be a partying and drinking holiday. They had huge celebrations with floats and parades, but also removed the religious part of the holiday. Instead they changed it to more of a festival celebrating the Irish culture and people today in America.
